Hello from Creta..

Image
Hey there,I'm posting from Creta island where we're staying at the hotel Lyttos Beach, just 1 min walk from the Sea. We arrived yesterday and fell in love with the place which is 20 min drive from Hirraclion, the capital city. The sea is not very warm, it's about 22 above zero, but I swim and some other people do the same. The water is blue and crystal clear, unlike the Black Sea or South China Sea. We booked one tour to the monastery and the lake in the mountains. Will post from there.Love and hugs to all of you:))

First meeting with my greatgrandson Klim

Image
Hey there, I haven't posted for a long time. Now I'm trying to catch up with what I missed. Today we have been to Stasik to see my great grand son Klim who was born on January 7th and was baptised Russian Orthox Chrisitian on Thusday, April 11th. It was at the Church of Kazanskaya Virgin Mary in Kotelniki area of Moscow. It is an old church where Russian Tsar Nikolos II and his family oftent had been to. We got acquinted with Kate's parents - Nadezhda and Igor. They are nice and warm people who love Stasik. He is a very loving and considerate young fater. Even though we spent in a huge traffic jam almost 3 hours, we really loved our visit and all we saw there. There were Marina and Stepka, too. Stepka has become a lovely 4-year old boy. I'm happy that Stasik is now surrounded by loving and kind people. Klimka is so cute, like a toy-boy. Have a look at some pics and let's keep our fingers crossed for them...Hugs and love to all of you

Meeting Lena in Moscow

Image
Hey there, Blizzard is over and sunny but cold weather is here again. It was a hard week as I've had exams and graduation presentations of my 4th year students at HSE. But still I managed to see Lena who is in Moscow now doing her usual theatrical business with American students. We spent some time in a cafe talking about our nearset and dearest people - Dima, Nun Anna, Olia and others. It was very nice to see Dima's book and learn about its success and other things about Dima's business. I think all changes regarding Dima's business are for better and sooner or later they must have happened...So it's just matter of time. Well, love and hugs to all of you.

Blizzard in Late March in Moscow

Image
For 3 days already it has been very windy and snowy in Moscow.Awful blizzard is here to stay... It's very unpleasant as we are fed up with this cold and snow for so long. Everybody is looking forward to spring now. But it does not seem to come this year. I left my new car behind at dacha as I was afraid of not being able to drive it on icy road. So I was stumping through showdrifts to the train station. Well, still looking forward to better weather , hopefully:((

Sochi March 16

Image
I have been in Sochi on March 15/16 on CI business. It was a gymnazium where I spent 8 hours watching candidates doing Cambridg English exams. After that I spent a couple of hours driving around Sochi in taxi and talking with drivers. Sochi has become a very urban city with many skyscrapers along the Kurortniy alley. Traffic jams are awful, worse than in Moscow. Winter Olympic Games are coming and this makes Sochi not a cosy and nice a place as it used to be when I was a child and went to Sochi with my Granny. It's a pity...I'm sorry for Sochi:(( Love and hugs to you..

Barselona is amazing!!

Image
Hi everybody, I am here in Moscow and slightly unwell after my 4 day trip to Barselona. It lasted from 28 Feb to March 5th. It was really tiring but very exciting. We arranged in Barselona a kind of family reunion - Dad, me, Olya and Masha (she arrived from Munich, to see Olya). Barselona is a stunning place with its narrow streets and the Sea, which is beautiful and gorgeous... Olia is pregnant and it's OK, as the girl who is about to be born in June is a long awaited one. So have a look at some magnificent pics we made there (Gaudi's masterpieces and other places and shots). Hope you love it. Hugs and kisses...:))

Back from Norwich

Image
Hey there, I could not post any earlier as I got back from England only some days ago (10-18Feb) and was piled up with work. Now that I'm at dacha I can post some pics and make some comments. Overall, it was both positive and negative experience. Norwich is a small city 185km north-east of London, typically British and very cosy. However, cold weather without snow and with harsh wind made staying at NILE school classes (seminars were held there)pretty uncomfortable. Three star hotel (TraveLodge) was not very good either. Some of my fellow-teachers, who are writing a book with me (under the guidance of BC Moscow,) were unfriendly at times , which made me walk around the cities all alone. On Thursday we went to Cambridge (CUP) where we had a small reception and they showed us old publishing equipment and warehouse. It was very nice and pleasant in Cambridge as it's a splendid city, more sunny than Norwich. On Friday we moved to London, Paddington. It's full of small 3-star ho...

Norwich, England

Image
Hey there, Tomorrow I'm flying to London. It's our last coordination session, which our organizers decided to hold in NILE (Norwich Institute of Linguistic Education). Two previous sessions were held in Russia - Kupavna and Suzdal. Now it's a kind of gift from British Council (BC) Moscow, who support the EFA project. It was not easy to arrange my absence from classes at HSE and School 1359, but I tried my best to achieve this. So I found out that the city dates back to 16th century and hope to see many interesting things there. I also hope to see how studies are organized at this university. I'll keep you informed about my stay. Getting back on Feb 17. Hugs and love to all of you...

Late January updates

Image
Hey there. It's been bittely cold in Moscow since we got back from China. Several good and few bad things happened though. Good and bad news mixed up: 1)all my candidates from school 1359 (8CAE, 5FCE, 2PET) passed the exams they did in December!2) Katya gave birth to a boy Klim on Jan 6, who is my grandson's(Stas) son!!! 3) Marina, Stepka and Kostya visited us and Marina is going to Italy for spring holiday as a reward for good job!!!4) My car Mitsubishi Colt skidded on black ice and I crashed on pavement so it stopped and was transported to repair shop for mending.I'm ok but the car is not, serious repair is needed. That's all. Have a look at some funny pics I made at dacha in January

Got from China a week ago

Image
Hey there, it's been long since I last posted to my blog, but China is China. No Google, no Facebook or Twitter, only Bauedoo (it's similar to Yandex) and everything is in Chinese and under control or blocked. Not very funny... Anyway, our stay there (at Sanya "Narada Villa" and then "Narada Sanya") was very good. The weather was not very sunny but warm enough for swimming and playing tennis. We enjoyed beautiful sea (Chinese Sea) and the monkey island surrounded by fishing farms where people live and grow sea creatures. We got there by cable car, just as in Vinpearl (Vietnam), but Chinese one is smaller and more overcrowded. After 8 days we moved to Beijing, from +25C to -10C. It was cloudy, foggy and full of people everywhere. The hotel was good, but it's really hard to communicate with people there as they don't speak English at all. I even used riksha for trevelling from a shopping mall back to my hotel as it was impossible to stop ...
